Although the main subject of this image is not a shadow, it is true that the series of sun rays and dark lines make the spectator's view go to the cyclist because it is the only element that escapes from the visual routine. It is an image in which the shadows set a rhythm, which is its protagonist. The careful composition with the semicircle that appears in the lower left corner and seems to go through the upper right reinforces this effect. The same scene without the cyclist would be an abstraction in which we would have no reference of scale and measurements and its visual value would be very poor, contrary to the image we see here, fortunately.
“All the beauty of life is made up of light and shadow.” (Leo Tolstoy)
Shadows are just as much part of our lives as lights, and they can be beautiful photo objects. This is why this month, we want you to chase the shadows in your surroundings and share your most impressive capture in our Picture of the Month Contest. Get out, find shadows in unusual places or just around the corner and impress us!
