The West Baray is one of the largest handcut water reservoirs on Earth. Its dikes of nearly 12 meters height and 16 km² area (nearly a third of the area of Manhattan) currently support a maximum capacity of 53 million m³ of water. Angkorian engineers started its build around the 11th century.
