  • Auf den ersten Blick fängt das Bild die verzaubernde Stimmung ein, die ein nahezu unberührter Wald beim „Betreten“ in uns erzeugt. Auf den zweiten Blick erzeugen die alten bemoosten Baumwurzeln unten rechts einen bedrohlich wirkenden „Waldgeist, der seinerseits den Betrachter des Bildes aufmerksam beobachtet. Als würde er mahnen, sich auch ja anständig zu benehmen und keine Dummheiten anzustellen. Nach einem alten deutschen Sprichwort hat er zwar nur ein Holzauge, aber das ist wachsam.
  • At first glance, the picture captures the enchanting atmosphere that an almost untouched forest creates in us when we “enter” it. At second glance, the old mossy tree roots in the lower right create a threatening-looking "forest spirit", which in turn observes the viewer of the picture attentively. As if he were warning to behave properly and not do anything stupid. According to an old German proverb, he has only a wooden eye, but that is vigilant.
