Der Schachbrettfalter ist auch für Laien recht gut von anderen Arten zu unterscheiden, vor allem natürlich am einzigartigen Flügelmuster, das ihm seinen Namen gegeben hat. Die Flügel sind auf der Oberseite schwarz oder dunkelbraun und weiß gefärbt und wirken wie ein Schachbrett. @Nabu
