Jung Stare sind in ihrem ersten Fluggefieder einheitlich graubraun. Im Spätsommer mausern sich die Stare. Ihr sogenanntes Schlichtkleid ist jedoch gar nicht langweilig, sondern mit einem regelrechten Perlmuster überzogen. Es stammt von den weißen Spitzen der sonst dunkelbraunen Federn.
