Great picture. Fog and clouds visually contrast the trees and mountains very nice. The rays of light in the sky and the reflection below are completing the whole issue very well.
It is good to look in the "archive" sometimes. I do that from time to time, too. Even pictures that don't seem so well-made at first can be interesting, watched with some distance and under the use of appropriate post-editing.
Yes, sometimes you take the image and it doesn't impact on you straightaway and its not until you have a different creative idea that something works better and gives a new dimension to it. Have you used the dramatic setting on you're camera? It works well with some things and is great with black & white.
Very good use of dramatic filter, it looks like an old photograph on film!
