Vor etwa 890.000 Jahren kam es zu einem Vulkanausbruch, bei dem die Lava Richtung Meer floß. Sie wurde an der Oberfläche stark abgekühlt und erstarrte, während im Innern die Lava weiterfloß. Durch diese früheren Lavagänge wird der Besucher geführt.
