I found a large colony of these tiger beetles on a sunny bank close to an old lead-mine spoil heap in a Derbyshire Dale. They were very active but fortunately this one paused mlong enough for me to get a reasonable shot

    I forgot to mention I was using an automatic extension ring with the lens to reduce the minimum focus distance of my big lens but still stops me from having to get too close to my subject and disturb it - a technique I often use with butterflies and dragonflies
