Die Flügel des Kleinen Eisvogels sind schwarzbraun gefärbt. Vorder- und Hinterflügel tragen eine breite Binde aus weißen Flecken. Bei geöffneten Flügeln bildet diese Binde einen Halbkreis. Besonders wohl fühlt sich der Falter in feuchten Wäldern. @Nabu
