Erta Ale, in the Afar region of Ethiopia, is one of the most active volcanoes in Africa, in continuous eruption since 1967. Erta Ale means "smoking mountain" in Afar and is also referred to as the Gateway to Hell. Witnessing this volcano is a fantastic experience.
