MyOMSYSTEM picture description and tags
This is the largest of its genus in the UK, Empis tessallata and has the most interesting formality for courtship. The male must present the female with a suitable "nuptial gift" prior to being approved as a mate. This gift comes is an insect caught with the piercing mouthparts of the male.
