Nickname ‘Bootsy’.
Biography
Nickname ‘Bootsy’. Born in 1959 and a professional broadcast sound engineer. Around 1978 I became fascinated by the documentaries by Jacques Cousteau and knew right away, "I want to experience this adventure!" A year later I obtained my diving license in the Netherlands. In the Dutch waters I didn’t find the romance from the documentaries of ‘Cousteau’. And decided to move - in 1980 - to Curaçao, a Dutch island in the Caribbean, in order to be able to dive a lot in this tropical sea, for 6 years, outside of my work as a chef. There, I almost immediately started taking pictures under water, analog and rather primitive compared to nowadays. I am now very pleased with my extensive underwater photography rig, which consists of an Olympus OM-D E-M5 mark 2, with various lenses and Sea & Sea flash units. Through the competition that I have entered into with myself and the ambition for perfectionism, I continue to inspire myself. What do I aim for in a good underwater picture? Originality, bravado, contrast and if possible strong eye contact. A picture that you look at just a little longer. I keep telling myself that I will still take my ‘most beautiful’ picture. Since 2015 I have been a regular columnist in the monthly glossy ‘Diving’, which is a pleasant addition to my photography work. Here I can share my underwater photography adventures with my readers in a unique way. After so many years of diving there is nothing that can fascinate me more than embarking on an adventure to make a beautiful underwater photo!
