I have been lucky enough to travel, a lot, and during the course of these travels, I have never been too far away from my camera. I have also been lucky enough to mountaineer and climb on 3 continents. Whilst in Yosemite I had the first contact with the works of Ansel Adams. Seeing his images in situ, really made me look with fresh eyes at landscape photography and made me consider how I would move on from snaps to images worth printing.
One of my jobs involved me passing the National Gallery, London, on a regular basis, and with free admission, it was my “go-to” place. I always ensured, that my meetings allowed me the time to visit and just look at composition. Turner for the sunsets and hazy, pastel, colours and Stubbs for the detail.
I don’t think I will ever achieve anything that will remotely measure against these three masters of their craft, nevertheless; they all remain my inspiration.
I have always used Olympus cameras, once I could afford to move up from my, quickly forgotten, Zenit E. I have also owned, used and liked the Pentax P30T and the Canon 30D but inevitably moved back to Olympus, E510, E3, E5 and now the OMD EM1, Mk ii and now the Mkiii. I just love the look, feel, and results from the Zuiko lens and inline with my three mentors(!) above, I just like the manner in which Olympus go about their photography business.
