First of all, photographing is one of my hobbies. As a profession, I'm a software developer.
My interest for photographing was kindled (way back) in 1981. When on a little excursion into the woods, loaded with shotguns and rifles, my brother took the picture I use as a profile picture today on an Olympus OM 2. I was 19 at that time any my brother was 23. I think it was watching the whole process from taking the picture, processing the film and then develop it onto a piece of paper that was the trigger.
For a few years I borrowed his "old" (old in quotations because he buys these things at the same rate as other people buy underwear) Olympus OM 1. If nothing, I at least learned two things these first few years. I'm completely without talent and have a more than a sufficient dose of persistence.
Not until 1984 I gave the OM 1 back to my brother and bought the brand new Ricoh Xr P. A camera with witch I had loads of fun until I entered the digital wold in 2004 with a Canon 350D. Finally I had the the freedom of taking pictures in buckets and not having to remortgage the house to get them developed. And reassuringly, I saw the the talent for this whole konsept was still eluding me.
Naturally I figured that buying a better camera would produce better images so in 2013 I bought a Pentax 5 II. And lo and behold, not even a little improvement was to be beheld. And for five years this continued. Then, in this very summer of 2017, I was scolded by the missus for getting a perhaps not as cheap camera as otherwise might be gotten. I got myself a EM 1 m2 (and a couple of lenses). Under the absolute certainty of going pro would produce better pictures. I was once again proven wrong.
And by doing some cross referencing I see that my two distinguishing features in photographing lingers on. A lack of talent and an abundance of persistence. Perhaps, some day, I should seek some education. Perhaps, as long as is does not detract from the fun of it.
