could even be more powerful (?) if that narrow line at left side of the window is gone, so that the window is on the edge of the frame; than the elements in the picture are more playing with each other in stead of their 3 dimensionality now.. With which the mutual relationship to each other increases tension, they would be glued together in a more flat sufface .. what do you think ? I know you are against cutting away/reframing.. but than you are asking a really almost impossible challenge to get it all right in 1 shot.. and you set the bar very high, (too high?)

Good Rob, you are certainly right that cropping an image can improve the image effect. I know it sounds "stuck" when I don't want to do this on principle. During my training as a photographer I had to deal with this subject extensively. For me, after mature experience, I have come to the conclusion that I prefer to shoot variations and choose one afterwards. Today I understand photographers who are also totally fixed in this respect and prefer to discard an image rather than tinker with it. You have made a lot of effort to teach me something here, but as you can see, I remain a stubborn old goatNevertheless, thank you for your helpful offersPlease tell me your opinion about my alternative:my.olympus-consumer.com/.../372625
beauty that one ! more open than this 1 above. Other rules now. I would say, fine ! leave it just as it is. Movement of woman right to me, seems, feels or has some relation with the border of the wall and the openness left of it that you offer. More light in the picture and she walking, moving adds something extra's to this man sleeping in front of this temporary facade wall. Different from this situation with color relation, but no active addition from that red person walking out the picture as in the B&W version. Nice you show that 1 too..

Well, thank you, good Rob, for your constant critical questioning. What do we learn from this latest discussion? We both seem to have very different views on image composition (we have often disagreed before). Personally, I still find the colour photo above more interesting than the black and white one (even though I absolutely understand your point of view!). But to find out, why this is sowe would have to go deeper into our reasons .....
well I cab say honestly now, when I look at them both again, I'm not so sure anymore about my statement of some hours ago ! Both of them have different qualities. And cropping the left wall piece out..? I'll even think now differently...
